Dowd, C.S.C., president of the University of Notre Dame, presided and preached at a Mass for immigrants and immigration reform in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.The celebration followed a Nov. 12 message from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which voiced strong concern about “the indiscriminate mass deportation of people” from the U.S. and responded to recent comments by Pope Leo XIV.This Mass brought our community together in prayer for the dignity, protection, and fair treatment of all immigrants.
54:31Mass for Immigrants and Immigration Reform - December 1, 2025On December 1, 2025, the Notre Dame community came together for a special Mass to pray for immigrants and for meaningful immigration reform, answering the recent call from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. University President Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C., preached and presided.Together, we pray for a renewed commitment to uphold the human dignity of all immigrants while pursuing reforms that protect both people and national security. May the Church’s foundational concern for the human person guide every policy discussion, and may we find the courage to respond to all immigrants with compassion, solidarity, and hope.
